Biography
Hope was born on 24 September 1887 in Scotland. He had fought on the Western Front during World War One and served in various positions during the Conservative Governments of the 1920's and 1930's. As Viceroy, he implemented the Government of India Act, and was in that position during the outbreak of World War Two. He resigned after the 1943 Bengal Famine, having been viceroy for seven years. He died on 5 January 1952.
