Biography
Stanley Baldwin was a Conservative politician and 1st Earl of Bewdley. He was born on 3 August 1867 in Worcestershire and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. India saw mounting religious violence during his first term. Baldwin''s second cabinet lasted from November 1924 to June 1929. Winston Churchill served as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Lord Birkenhead was Secretary of State for India. This era saw the Simon Commission, and for a while the suspension of diarchy. In June 1935 Baldwin became Prime Minister for the third time. Lord Zetland was the India Secretary. Baldwin oversaw the passing through parliament of the 1935 Government of India Act. Religious riots broke out in Bombay. He died on 14 December 1947.
