John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute

Stuart was the first Prime Minister from Scotland following the Act of Union. He had moved to London during the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745 and became close to the Prince of Wales. Upon his death, he was appointed tutor to the future George III. He quickly rose in influence following George III's accession to the throne and became the first Tory Prime Minister after a long period of Whig dominance, but George quickly turned against him and he resigned in 1763. During his time in office Stuart negotiated the end of the Seven Years' War and saw Robert Clive return from India. Stuart continued to sit in the House of Lords as a Scottish representative peer until 1780.
