Biography
Hercules Robinson was born on 19 December 1824. He was initially Acting Governor, but was given the post officially on 16 May 1865. Before service in Ceylon he had been the Governor of Hong Kong, and would later become Governor of Fiji, New South Wales, New Zealand, and High Commissioner for Southern Africa. He introduced tea growing and railways to Ceylon.
