Biography
Robinson was born on 24 October 1827. Having previously been the Secretary of State for India, he was Viceroy from 1880 to 1884. He introduced the Ibert Bill, which would have granted Indians more legal rights and offices, but was rejected by Parliament. He also initiated Forest conservation programs. Also known as Earl De Grey, he was a prominent Liberal politician, serving in every Liberal cabinet from 1861 until 1908. His first major Indian office was as the Secretary of State for India, serving under Prime Minister Russell. He died on 9 July 1909.
