Biography
Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood was born on 21 June 1826. His diplomatic career had begun in Syria in 1860, and had experience in Russia. His tenure saw the annexation of Upper Burma. His policies are considered to have been greatly informed by the Russian threat to British India. In later life he was a writer. He died on 12 February 1902.
