Biography
Frederick Edwin Smith was born on 12 July 1872. He was a Conservative politician and barrister. He had previously served under Liberal Prime Minister Lloyd George in a coalition government. He was Secretary of State for India from 1924 to 1928. He was reportedly unhappy with the changes being wrought by the Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms. He died in 1930 at the age of 58.
