Biography
Edward Law, 1st Earl of Ellenborough, served as President of the Board of Control from 1828 to 1830 and as Governor-General of India from 1842 to 1844. His tenure was marked by a focus on British imperial interests and reforms. As President, he supported the strengthening of British control over India, particularly in matters of governance and military strategy. As Governor-General, he oversaw the conclusion of the First Anglo-Afghan War and the subsequent withdrawal of British forces. Ellenborough's policies were often controversial, particularly regarding military decisions, and he was eventually dismissed due to his handling of the Afghan conflict.
