Biography
Charles Hardinge was born on 20 June 1858 in Kent. He studied at Harrow and Cambridge. Like his predecessor Lord Minto, Hardinge also had a relative who was previously Governor-General. He was the target of assassination attempts during his viceroyalty, as he set about the implementation of the Morley-Minto reforms. World War One broke out, and Hardinge returned to England in 1916.
