Biography
Arthur Hope was born in Marylebone. He fought with the Coldstream Guards during World War One and earned the Military Cross. He was then a Conservative politician before becoming Governor of Madras. He campaigned during the war to have the Madras Battalion re-instated, which it eventually was due to the threat of Japanese attacks. He was appointed Colonel-in-Chief. After the war he was replaced as Governor.
