Biography
The Earl of Rosebery was born on 7 May 1847 in Mayfair. He studied at Oxford. As a politician he is often associated with liberal imperialism. As prime minister he sat in the House of Lords, and often found his policies undercut by the moderate and left-wing liberals in the Commons. He was an early patron of rugby and football in Scotland, and is buried in his native Edinburgh.
